Register!
The Register! system is designed for online registration in conferences, both large and small. It is particularly geared to conferences where the abstracts are submitted in the typesetting language LaTeX, the industry standard in mathematics worldwide and increasingly standard in cognate areas such as computer science, engineering, physics, etc.Online Registration Interface
- Simple interface that can be configured to meet the requirements of individual meetings.
- Identifies registrants from previous meetings from a database constisting of over 2500 (mostly Australian) research active mathematicians. This means most mathematicians who regularly attend research meetings in Australia can register under their existing profile, with no need to re-enter personal details for each meeting.
- Supports "branding" bars and individualised css files to create a sense of stylistic continuity with the conference web site.
- Supports mutiple registration categories with differing availability dates.
- Supports submission of abstracts in LaTeX, with real time typesetting (see below).
- Supports registration for conference events (dinners, receptions, public lectures, etc.) and anticipated attendance dates.
- Provides personalised timetables for registrants.
- Registrants can upload a profile photo.
- Registrants can record their research interests using the American Mathematical Society's Mathematics Subject Classification.
Administration Interface
- Allows multiple tabular views of current registration data, all added in response to the requirements of conference organisers over a 10 year period. Addition of new special purpose views is relatively easy (no reasonable request refused!).
- Supports timetabling of sessions using a simple web interface that can be deployed in a distributed way (were multiple session organisers are involved) or simply by the conference director/administrator.
- Supports both unified timetabling for small meetings or parallel sessions for large meetings.
- Easy to view calendar interface for managing important dates.
- Session and event organisers portals give access to limited functionality, allowing devolved administration of conference events and sessions.
- Simple interface enables session and conference organisers to accept or reject talks online, with automated notifications to registrants.
Public Interface
- Supports viewing of conference registrations and submitted abstracts in real time.
- Supports viewing of conference timetable at any stage, including during the drafting process.
- Visibility of all parts of public interface at the discretion of the conference organisers, using a simple url-based access scheme that allows easy integration into the conference web site.
LaTeX Support
- Does real time LaTeX typestting during the registration process, so that registrants' abstracts are typeset as they submit them.
- Provided the registrant enters valid LaTeX, a pdf file is created and this file is immediately viewable from the abstracts listng for the meeting.
- When the time comes to produce a conference booklet, it produces LaTeX files that are easily assembled into a booklet using a standard set of macros and template files that can be configured to give control over style and format. The typesetting of the conference booklet should take no more than 2 hours.
- LaTeX files for booklet provide day by day summaries, session summaries and complete abstract listing.
- Creation of new LaTeX file outputs is relatively easy (no reasonable request refused!).
Payment Integration
- System has been successfully integrated with several secure online payment systems.
- Most complete integrated functionality has been achieved with the popular OneStop payment system used at several Australian universities.
- In the best cases, this has allowed automatic recording of payment status in Register!, simplifying the monitoring and tracking of payments for conference organisers.
- Most recently, payment integration through Paypal proved very successful and effective.
