ANZIAM2024 Information

About ANZIAM

  • ANZIAM (Australia and New Zealand Industrial and Applied Mathematics) is a division of the Australian Mathematical Society (AustMS)
  • ANZIAM members are interested in applied mathematical research, mathematical applications and tertiary mathematics education.

Conference Location

Venue Information

The ANZIAM 2024 Conference will be held at the Adelaide Hills Convention Centre. The venue is located in Hahndorf, a town in the picturesque Adelaide Hills approximately 28km from the Adelaide CBD.

Transport

Hahndorf is accessible via the Adelaide Metro 864 bus route (approximately 1 hour from the CBD).

Accommodation Options

  • Adelaide Hills Convention Centre provides on-site accommodation ranging from 2-person rooms to large houses for up to 10 guests.
    • All accommodation at the venue has been blocked out for our conference and will appear as unavailable online. To secure a booking, please phone the reception and mention that you will be attending the ANZIAM Conference. Phone No: 08 8388 7921. Rooms will become available to the public again on 11 Dec 2023, so please book before this date to secure your accommodation.

Food Options (Monday and Tuesday Night)

There is no restaurant on site at the conference venue. However, there are numerous food options in Hahndorf along Main St and Mount Barker Road.

Child Care Options

The Little Nook Early Learning Centre is located next door to the conference venue and has limited places available for casual bookings.

Travel and Registration Support

The following funding support is available for attendees at ANZIAM 2024:

  • WIMSIG Anne Penfold Street Awards: These provide full or partial financial support for care providers and/or facilities to individuals while they travel for conferences or research visits. Potential uses for these Awards include (but are not limited to) short-term childcare and professional carers for elderly relatives.
  • WIMSIG Cheryl E. Praeger Travel Awards: These provide full or partial support for women, trans and gender diverse mathematicians based in Australia to attend conferences or research visits.
  • ANZIAM Student Support Scheme: This scheme provides funding for travel and registration fees for students to attend ANZIAM conferences.

We will be unable to offer refunds for registrations after January 31, 2024.

JSIAM Engagement Initiative

The aim of this initiative is to promote engagement between ANZIAM and the Japanese Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (JSIAM). There is a reciprocal arrangement between JSIAM and AustMS/ANZIAM. JSIAM Members can join AustMS and ANZIAM at a reduced rate (and ANZIAM Members can join JSIAM at a reduced rate). Please indicate at Registration whether you would like to take part in this initiative at ANZIAM 2024. Speakers will be scheduled in the same way as others and will be marked with a “J” in the programme.

Mathematical Biology Special Interest Group (MBSIG) Workshop

The Mathematical Biology Special Interest Group Workshop will be held immediately after the ANZIAM Conference on Friday 16 February 2024, in room H5-02 (Bradley Forum) at City West Campus, UniSA. Registration for the Workshop is $30 per person (includes catering), and a bus from Hahndorf directly to UniSA on Friday is available for MBSIG/SigmaOpt Workshop attendees ($25 per person). Registration (including for those attending MBSIG only) is through the ANZIAM Conference registration system.

SigmaOpt Workshop

SigmaOpt, the optimisation special interest group of ANZIAM, is holding a one-day workshop at the City West Campus of UniSA (Room RR5-09) on Friday February 16th, 2024. The workshop will feature talks from the following invited speakers as well as from the Winner of the SigmaOpt/MoCaO Student Best Paper Prize (see call below):

  • Lindon Roberts (USyd)
  • Golbon Zakeri (UMas Amherst, USA)

Registration is $50 (includes catering) and is done through the ANZIAM 2024 registration system.

Student Best Paper Prize: SigmaOpt and MoCaO jointly call for nominations for the SigmaOpt/MoCAO Student Best Paper Prize for an exceptional paper in the field of mathematical optimsation, optimal control, operations research or related field published in the last 18 months. The winner of this prize will be awarded $300 and invited to present the paper at the one-day workshop. Early Career Researcher Workshop (ECW)

The Early Career Researcher Workshop will be held in Adelaide over the weekend before ANZIAM. This workshop is targeted at both postgraduate students and postdoctoral/research fellows. More information can be found on the ECW page. 

Cherry Ripe Prize

The Cherry Ripe Prize is awarded to the best non-student talk at the annual ANZIAM Conference (as voted by students). Students will receive a link to a Google Form to submit their votes for the Cherry Ripe Prize. All students receive one vote (which can be edited after submission). The winner will be announced after the final Plenary on Thursday. Please have your votes submitted prior to the start of the final plenary.
