Abstract

This paper presents some characterizations of the transmuted Lindley
distribution for modelling reliability data. The transmuted Lindley distribution
can be obtained by using quadratic rank transmutation map technique. We obtain
the analytic shapes of the density and hazard functions. Some structural
properties of the transmuted Lindley distribution are discussed, which special
emphasis on its moments. The method of maximum likelihood is used for estimating
the model parameters. We illustrate the use of this model with an application to
engineering data.
